Mrs. Eliza Mae Hibbitt Piper Copeland was born to the late Pete and Otha Hudson Hibbitt December 20, 1921 in Buck Creek, Kentucky Barren County. Eliza married David Piper as a teenager. To this union one daughter was born, Mary Pauline Piper. Their family later relocated to Loving Spring where David worked on the farm as a sharecropper and Eliza worked hard in the homes as a maid and cook. Some years later the family moved to a farm owned by Joe Morris in Rocky Hill, Kentucky. The marriage to David Piper ended in divorce. Eliza moved to Indianapolis in 1958 where her aunt and sister resided. She later met and married Olan Copeland. Eliza gave her life completely to the Lord and became a member of Rocky Hill Church. She became involved working for God in the church and the community. She met a Christian lady named Frankie Turner. They became very close friends and worked side by side for several years, making curtains and sewing tablecloths for the church and the one room school house. When she relocated to Indianapolis, she united with Eastside Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Williams and rededicated her life to the Lord.
