Minister Phillip Michael Cox, 64, of Kokomo, transitioned from labor to reward on the afternoon of June 19, 2018.
Phillip was an Associate Member at Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church. He was Indiana's Mr. Basketball 1972 and was part of the Connersville High School State Basketball Championship Team in 1972. As Mr. Basketball he was a member of the Indiana All Stars team in 1972. Phillip was inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 2009. He received his BS from Indiana University and is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He had been an assistant track, football and basketball coach at Kokomo High School; had been the assistant and head coach basketball coach at Connersville High School. Phillip was employed with Kokomo - Center Schools for 35 years.
He leaves to cherish his memory, loving wife, Darlene Cox; mother, Alberta Cox of Connersville; son, Chris Smithson (Michelle) of Long Beach, California; daughters: Jamilah Ari Sinkler of Charlotte, North Carolina and Sharron Meriwether of Kokomo; sisters: Daulphine Day (Paul) of Connersville, IN and Angela Cox of Indianapolis, IN; 4 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
The first visitation is Friday, June 22, 2018, 4pm to 8pm at the Kokomo Memorial Gymnasium. A second visitation is Saturday, June 23, 2018, 10am - 12pm with the Homegoing Celebration commencing at 12pm at Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Lionel McNeil will be the Eulogist.
